Sapna Sanagavarapu

Taking photographs is not very difficult, but taking interesting and good photographs is already a bit more complicated. Buying an expensive camera with lots of accessories is not very difficult either, if you have the money of course. Taking boring and poor pictures with a top notch camera is also not very difficult. On the other hand, taking fascinating pictures with a relatively simple camera requires a bit more effort and imagination. The point I am trying to make is that finding that interesting perspective, unusual angle or a slightly out of the ordinary exposure is more crucial to producing nice photographs than the equipment, although good equipment obviously does not hurt either.

All the photographs have been taken by me and my "compañera de alma", Sapna Sanagavarapu. The photographs have been selected on the perspective, specific angle or another somewhat less common feature. You will see that some of the nicest photographs have been taken with an automatic camera.

The photographs of the "gallery" are shown below, including a brief description and a mention of the equipment used. By clicking on the photographs you will be able to see the full blown versions, but I have to warn you that some patience is required. In order to preserve as much as possible of the quality of the photographs, the files are rather large. Enjoy.

Galeries Lafayette, Paris The stained glass cupola of this Galeries Lafayette building in Paris was reflected in glass attached to a banister. Unfortunately, the digital version of the photograph does not show the coloured satined glass "strips" very well. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera equipped with a Sigma 28 - 80 mm zoom lens.
Parc Güel, Barcelona Parc Güell in Barcelona is one of Gaudi's many wonderful architectural contributions. The reflection in the window shows Gaudi's "gingerbread" house in the park. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera equipped with a Sigma 28 - 80 mm zoom lens.
Le Marais, Paris Le Marais is one of the oldest and most vibrant "quartier" in Paris. This junction of streets is very ordinary, but by keeping the shutter open for a number of seconds the people crossing the street are transformed into "ghosts". The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera with a standard 50 mm Canon lens.
Cao Dai Great Temple, Vietnam The Cao Dai religion is a mixture of Budhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Vietnamese spiritualism, Christianity and Islam. The Great Temple is located in Tay Ninh province, close to the border with Cambodia. The photograph was taken with an Olympus Infinity Zoom 230 automatic camera.
Marché d'Aligre, Paris Le Marché d'Aligre is one of the many wonderful markets in Paris, where local people buy fresh produce, flowers and bric-a-brac. The quality of both produce and flowers is typically excellent. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera with a standard 50 mm Canon lens.
Marché d'Aligre, Paris Examples of the produce available at the Marché d'Aligre. The market is located in an area of the 12th district, mainly populated by people of Arab or North African descent. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera with a standard 50 mm Canon lens.
Louvre, Paris The transparent "pyramids" in front of the Louvre in Paris are an obvious choice for experimenting with angles, perspectives and composition. In the background, Sapna can be recognized by her red bag. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera equipped with a Sigma 28 - 80 mm zoom lens.
San Juan, Puerto Rico Small squares and large circles make up the dinner location for a wedding in San Juan, Puerto Rico. From above the wedding hall is a visually much more interesting sight than as seen at ground level. The photograph was taken with an Olympus Infinity Zoom 230 automatic camera.
Covent Garden, London Covent Garden in London is one of the most popular spots for the many visitors. As a result, people attempt to make some money from tourists in a wide variety of ways or just express themselves. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera equipped with a Sigma 28 - 80 mm zoom lens.
Roman bath, Bath The Roman influence in England is still visible through many remains of villas and roads, but arguably the most famous Roman era buildings are the Roman baths in Bath, a town in the west of England. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera equipped with a standard 50 mm Canon lens.
Tate Britain, London The Tate Britain is one of London's most famous picture galleries. Recently, it had been refurbished/renovated and those works included this walkway with a reflecting wall. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera equipped with a Sigma 28 - 80 mm zoom lens.
X-mas 2002, Los Angeles Already Los Angeles 'suffers' from sunny weather over X-mas. In addition, LaLa-land is not generally known for subtle public displays. However, I found this elephant with its Santa Claus hat quite amusing. The photograph was taken with a Canon AE1 camera equipped with a Sigma 28 - 80 mm zoom lens.
