| IMAGES Images which come to us through the media (television, newspapers and magazines) are increasingly being determined by commercial (the influence of advertisers) or other vested interests. At the same time, the number of opportunities for people to show their images to a broad audience is gradually de- creasing. However, modern communication technologies offer the possibility to individuals to claim their own piece of "public space" in "cyberspace". Ways of using existing public spaces are also still available: "graffiti" and "posters". Through this web site I use "cyberspace" to provide examples of such low-tech ways to show images to the audience outside the conventional channels of communication. Particularly "graffiti" has a distinct communication aspect, through which individuals and organizations can spread their opinions. In addition, "posters" offer the opportunity to attract attention to events and activities, which for various are not covered by the mass media. You can view the pictures of "graffiti" and "posters" by clicking on the pictures in the negative. I intend to expand the collection continuously and would welcome any suggestions and pictures which you would like me to add to the collection. Robin van Koert |
