FREELANCE TRANSLATING Ever since I started working on my PhD dissertation in the autumn of 1996, I have been wanting to earn a living with words. Writing collections of phrases, that is. Although freelance writing jobs do come along, they typically do not provide much more than bread without butter or anything. Let alone a good cup of coffee in the morning. Therefore, I decided to take up translation work for a living as well. Still working with words, but other people's phrases. As a Dutch national, I lived and worked in the UK from September 2000 until February 2007. Since February last year, I have been doing the same thing in Brooklyn, NY. I provide professional translation and proofreading services for the following language pairs:
FREELANCE WRITING In 2003, I used the occasion of a trip to India to boost my fledgling writing career. A series of articles on offshore outsourcing to India and other countries followed, as well as a couple of Internet-related feature articles with a Dutch national newspaper. In 2007, I wrote the text for a book on the history of two textile companies in West Africa. The book was highly praised in a review in De Volkskrant, one of two well regarded newspapers in the Netherlands. The other one being the NRC Handelsblad. Incidentally, I also provided the Dutch into English translation for the book. Currently, I am working on a non-fiction book of short narratives about my life as a voluntarily 'exiled' fan of my local football club in the Netherlands, FC Den Bosch.
